Hodgson and transfers

We have seen the acquisition of Jovanovic confirmed so he gives liverpool an added forward option something they lacked when torres was out and he can play as a second striker.

Aquilani seems to be staying as well as gerrard so formation wise we will be seeing a 4-3-3 in all likelihood but Mascherano seems to be likely to go as well as lucas so Roy does certainly need replacements in that area.

Kuyt is being talked of going to inter to replace Super Mario, Riera and Babel will probably go to raise more funds for this squad rebuilding.

I think team composition wise the following are assured there places:
Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger New LB
DM Gerrard Aquilani
RW Torres LW

Signings wise a left back is a necessity, Insua is headed out for a good fee of 5m, I think Hodgson will be looking to europe for one, Emanuelson at ajax seems possible, Taiwo from marseille would be ideal candidate and give them full backs who can push forward.

Wingers are essential to liverpool, Remy they have bid for, he could play off torres certainly and is very pacey but they need a few more to give them options to compete with the other top sides.

Luke Young was rumoured to be the first signing but hes heading elsewhere so Hodgson is trying to improve the squad because they do lack cover in the full back areas, left back is a certainity where he will make 2 signings, Calcido and Drenthe 2 players linked, Midfield wise a mascherano replacement is certainly needed.

Liverpool will be the same team as last season but with a different manager. They have never replaced Xabi Alonso and they will pay for that with another poor showing.

Hodgson sticking with the rafa formation, to genuinely win anything with this side he needs to buy a world class winger and a left back, these are 2 key areas and they need a back up for torres as he wont last the season.

Christian Poulsen's agent has revealed he expects the Denmark international to complete his move to Liverpool next week.

The Reds are thought to have targeted a move for Juventus midfielder Poulsen as a direct replacement for wantaway star Javier Mascherano.

Juve are believed to be willing to offload Poulsen as he does not figure in new coach Luigi Del Neri's long-term plans.

Anfield boss Roy Hodgson is a big admirer of Poulsen and confirmed his interest in the defensive midfielder earlier this week.
Positive

Poulsen's represetative, Jorn Bonnesen, has held talks with Liverpool over a possible deal and he is confident the move could be wrapped up next week.

"It won't take more than a week before this is sorted out." Bonnesen told Ekstra Bladet.

"It might be already in the beginning of next week. Christian Poulsen is Roy's man.

"He will be playing as defensive midfielder at Liverpool. I returned home with a good and positive impression."

Palermo sporting director Walter Sabatini believes there is still a chance the club could capture Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.

The Serie A outfit confirmed earlier this month they had made a bid for the Brazilian, but denied it was as high as €6million (£4.99m).

Sabatini says the two clubs are still talking and believes a deal could be done if the Italian club can up its bid.

He told Mediagol.it: "Is there a dialogue with Liverpool for Lucas Leiva?

"Yes, there is still a dialogue even if it is a marginal dialogue. Do Liverpool say he is unsellable - I believe that there is room for flexibility.

"How much would he cost? They evaluate him at €10million (£8.31m) but with €6-7 million I think maybe that the deal could be closed if the club would be willing to invest that figure."

He added to Live Sicilia: "Lucas? It is a remote possibility, we must try to be patient."

He is traditional holding midfielder, he wont do anything but tackle the opposition and would give gerrard and aquilani the freedom to push forward, ideal cut price replacement for mascherano.

It seems like if no more signings are made, front 3 for first match will be Jovanovic, cole and Maxi which is fair enough but they need to bring in added quality.

they have a stronger and more settled squad than arsenal. man city will take time to gel and spurs will not cope with being in champions league.

if he can have some luck regards injuries I think liverpool will challenge for the title.

the core of the team is good as chelsea and man utd.

They still lack squad depth for a key area which is upfront and until he sorts this it will be a long season.

Koncheskey and Meireles are now in, Meireles will strengthen midfield, highly experienced player and seems like hodgson wants one new forward possibly carlton cole.

Was so much speculation regarding Arda turan and if he managed to get him maybe they would have looked more of a top 4 side, Babel stays so hopefully Hodgson gives him more of a chance as a second striker.
